What People Missed Out on, 1st Edition

In my weird meandering stream of conscious explorations of the internet I found 3 and a half minutes of a 2006 pilot which was not picked up called "Mindy and Brenda," written by Office star/writer Mindy Kaling and her friend, a writer named Brenda. Previously the two starred in a play called "Matt and Ben," with the two girls playing the title parts. Greg Daniels viewing the play is what directly led to Mindy being hired for The Office.

he show definitely had promise, I wish it was picked up. While the show is clearly of the traditional sitcom variety, the writing is fresh and witty. I wish I had the rest of the pilot to see how the show develops across 22 minutes, 3 and a half is just too little. The two main characters remind of real people in the sense that they seem to be in touch with current trends/mannerisms etc etc. In addition, I would have liked this show because, unlike Greys Anatomy, it would have been a show that scored big with women but one that men (i.e. me) would also find very entertaining. I guess it is refreshing to see a comedy show where, in a television landscape where men are dominant and women are often an eye-candy afterthought, the focus is on the lives of two women, and we can see things from their perspective.

Anyways, what do I really know. Maybe the pilot wasn't picked up because the rest of the show sucked.
